Looking for feedback on PC upgrade.

alanp97

Current specs:

PSU: 500W Evga

CPU: Intel i5 4470

GPU: GTX 780TI Superclocked

RAM: 8GB DDR3

Ive always gone budget when building a pc but I want to spend a little bit more upgrading this time so I can max every game at 1080p. I dont have any problems with storage so I dont need to upgrade that and I also have a SSD.

Would it be worthwhile for me to change from my i5 to to an R5 1500X? I know I would have to get a new MOBO and ram but I dont mind too much. Also, would it be viable to keep my PSU? I havent had any problems with it its a couple of years old now though.

With the inflation of prices around graphics cards whats a good option to spend on now? 1070s are through the roof now and theres no 480s or 580s. Id appreciate some thoughts on what a good GPU upgrade would be.

If anyone can give me some advice on what I should do id really appreciate it. Thanks in advance,

The power supply is OK (Ive used it in many builds and I dont think its a problem) the 1500x is good but the 4470 should be fine for now. DDR3 ram is really cheap now with DDR4 being the norm now, upgrade to 16gb, it wont change FPS much but its nice to have. For the GPU, the 1060 or the 480/580 will be fine for ultra 1080p

Thinking of it I may go with a 1070/1080. The 1080 right now is only 50euro more expensive than a 1070. Whats your thoughts on getting that and upgrading my cpu in a few months?

500W should be fine but I'm very concerned over the quality of that product while operating a higher end card. The PSU is the only part that can kill all components in a system. Something like the EVGA B3 550W for $60 I would highly recommend as a budget option.

Oh your saying I should get a new PSU before I upgrade to a highend card like that? You're probably right id much rather be on the safer side of things.

I say you should get a new PSU even with a low end card. Use the PSU Tier List, get something above Tier 3.

What do you forget my recommended psu is cheaper than yours? The 750w variant is $77
