HDD - unpleasant noise

InertiaSelling
Go to solution Solved by InertiaSelling,

There was vibration because the drive bay made full contact with the case in its default location. I mounted it a bit higher using some dampening screws from an old workstation, and it stayed silent.

I even added a 2.5" laptop HDD in an SSD bracket just for fun, but even that did not make it any louder.

Problem solved, thanks for your answers @ARikozuM @Jack Kaye Pc Gamer

Hi. I recently built a new system with only a 525gb m.2 ssd for storage. Since I had a few old hard drives lying around, I figured I would set up a raid 1 array to make use of them and fill the (gigantic amount of) unused space in my case. I thought Cooler Master's dampening HDD mounts would help with the noise, but unfortunately, my computer sits on a glass desk that acts as a formidable amplifier. Obviously, the computer becomes silent again if I put it on the ground (which I'm not willing to do in the long term), or lift it (which I'm not able to do for extended periods of time). Any inexpensive solutions that would not be an eyesore ?

Have you thought of using rubber insulation?

Well, the dampening mounts I mentioned are rubber, as well as the feet of my case. What else could I rubberize ? @Jack Kaye Pc Gamer @ARikozuM

The feet of the case are likely hard rubber. I'd get softer rubber so that it absorbs a bit more of the vibration.
