1440p 144Hz or 1080p 144Hz?

Matrooper

Im gna buy a new monitor and i have a good gaming pc with gtx 1070, Would it be worth it to upgrade to 2K and would i still be able to play 100+ frames on high end games like Battlefield, Battlefront?

Or should i just stay on 1080p to get the max frames as i can get? or is it not worth upgrading from 75hz to 144Hz?

If you game competitively, you probably want higher framerates, so get a 144Hz  24 inch 1080p monitor.

For casual gaming though, I'd much rather have a 27 inch 1440p display running at a lower framerate than say a 24 or 27 inch 1080p display, as long as I'm still getting at least 50-60 FPS or more. Thing is, once you use a 27 inch 1440p display, you'll never want to go back to a 1080p monitor on screens larger than 24 inches.

In fact, I'd sooner have a 60Hz 27 inch 1440p monitor than a 240Hz 24 inch 1080p gaming monitor any day of the week, but that's because I use my computer for work purposes too. Coincidentally, this is exactly what I chose when I bought my 60Hz 27 inch 1440p monitor for $200 CAD. :P

This is just my opinion though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Another option for 1440p 144hz: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mNBrxr/aoc-ag271qx-270-2560x1440-144hz-monitor-ag271qx

Same price as the above dell, and virtually the same specs.

Another consideration is do you need G-Sync? Depending on which titles you play, my own research suggests that the 1070 might not be able to push enough frames at 1440p for a smooth (tear free) experience without it, but I could be wrong, and it is an extra ~$170.

Edit: As far as the move from 75hz to 144hz is concerned, you do get diminishing returns higher than ~75 from my own experience and what I've read from others. It's like upgrading from an HDD to an SSD. You don't notice until you have to go back and use the old tech how much better the new stuff is.

No, it's technically 2K - sort of. Problem is that 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K, etc are all film based terms, and shouldn't actually be used when referring to computer monitors or TV's at all. That's right - that 4K TV you bought most likely isn't actually 4K DCI Standard. :D True 4K is 4096 pixels wide, while most 4K TV's are only 3840 pixels wide. This is fine though because TV Shows and movies are adapted for 16:9 displays differently, so no one is ever going to see the RAW footage shot from the camera. (even though I'd really like to.)

Below is a list of officially standardized film and digital video resolutions as they usually are shot directly from the camera:

Because of this, 1080p is technically 2K, so 1440p would be referred to as 2.5K resolution. Sort of. Because again, there's no official film standard for X.5K resolutions.

2k/4k refers to the horizontal pixel count, they are categories not specific resolutions.

basically 1440p would be 2.5k

As someone with a 27 inch 1440p display, go 1440p for sure. It's perfect for a 27 inch screen. Can't say what sort of frames you'll be getting with your 1070, but at 1440p high BF1 runs at a pretty constant 63 fps on a 64 player conquest as I have it locked at that because of my poor CPU. When my CPU isn't the bottleneck, like in a 20 player rush server, and I have my frame rate unlocked, I get around 80-90 on an RX 480, so your 1070 would do better than that.
