Strange that it isn't faster in games but it still has 10% higher single core performance.

Ryzen 7 and 5 can be overclocked to 3.9GHz with relative ease. 4.0 if you are lucky.

R5 has a lower base clock, but most Ryzen(s) thus far can hit 4GHz equally since they are from the same yield but with 2 disabled cores. Yields on 8 core Ryzens are very good.

Didn't know that. With this budget a R5 might be a good choice then (if he is going to overclock it).

I do agree that a R5 is a good upgrade but if he only wants to get more fps in Arma 3 then the i5 might be better for him.

R7 1800X base clock is 3.6 compared 3.2 on R5. In your link it shows that both can reach >4.0 equally, in fact in your link it shows the R5 hits 4.25 while the best of R7 is 4.1.

In your previous graph it shows a R7 1800X at 3.6 base, so there is no reason a R5 can't be overclocked to 3.6 since 3.9 is common.

The i5 7400 can only boost up to 3.5, so a 3.6 all-cores overclock is already a substantial leap in a CPU that is proven to do 3.9 all-cores. IPC between Skylake/Kabylake and Ryzen isn't much difference.

But you just shown it is slower?!

Even if let's say the R5 is ~1FPS slower, I would still not say the i5 is worth considering. This is a locked quad core in 2017! An extra one frame is not worth the drawback.

I don't read the reply to my posts anymore so don't bother.
