Hello anyone who wants to help,

I have been wanting to build a computer for a long time now. I think I have it down now, but I want a few second opinions on my build.

1. Budget & Location

I am from a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada, and I have a budget of about 3000 dollars for the initial build.

2. Aim

This is supposed to be a portable, High End Gaming PC. I want to start gaming, but also want to be able to store every game I buy on my computer so that I can play it whenever I want. It doesn't always have to be hooked up to the internet, but it will always be needing a power source. Basically trying to find the sweet spot between Desktop Power and Upgrade Ability, and Laptop Portability. For this I bought the DR Zaber Sentry Case. If this turns out to be a bust I can find something else to build in. I realize that the build might be a tad overkill, but I figure its better to go overboard and have a fairly futureproof machine, than have a computer that I will just need to upgrade in a year.

3. Monitors

I plan on Running 1 monitor at the moment.

4. Peripherals

I am uncomfortable committing to the cables that I will need to buy for this.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I am upgrading because with a console, I have to change games all the time and I cannot reliably bring games with me to play when I travel. With this all I need is an outlet and a portable monitor, or a HDMI cable to plug into a TV.

I am going to post 2 builds. They are the same, but the reason I am doing this is because the first one is what I can afford right now, and the other one is what I aspire to create in the long term.

Initial Build

Final Build

I am kind of experimenting with the AIO cooler. There should be room for it in the Sentry Case in the GPU compartment at the end of the GTX 1070. Please let me know what you think of the build in general and my experiment. Thank you so much.

Sean

1. The Gigabyte GTX 1070 mini ITX is too tall for the case. Somehow the standard G1 gaming card (3 fan one) could fit in no problem, so be sure to pick a card that's no taller than the bracket (I myself don't think so about the 1070 mini being too tall, but that's from the brand's website  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uOaOK-FQzY4H2PJ-pjjzQ2RxGKeFcwXtGFPZumWAbas/edit#gid=0)

2. You don't need all those SSDs unless you are really rich. Just use 1 128/250GB SSD as boot drive and 1 2.5" hard drive. Besides, how much SSDs you can add really depends on how long your pick of graphics card is. Most half length cards only allows 1 SSD and 1 2.5" HDD.

3. Water cooling is an issue, and I'd recommend not doing so. In order to place the radiator and the hoses, you will have to give up the HDD slot and SSD slot, and leaves no room for storage unless you give up the graphics card.

Hello.

You seem to be going a little nuts with those 1TB SSDs, so much you're out of your budget. You won't even fit 2x 2.5" drives with an SFX-L power supply.

Change your power supply to a Corsair SF600, decide how much storage you really need, and go from there. if you balance it out a bit you could even fit in a 1080 TI.

What is the configuration of the case you ordered? I noticed you can customize it to your liking, which options did you choose?

I never really said I was right, just saying people have done much worse and I don't think it's something worth debating :P Sorry though

Thank you for that. I did know about the Sentry Preview tool, but not that compatability spreadsheet. That is a great help.

I want to go all SSD because the Gaming laptop I bought has had a lot of problems running games that were on the HDD that came with it, and I just want to avoid them altogether. This will be traveling a lot and the less moving parts the better.

The issue with the Water Cooler is one I have noticed before, but I got the idea from Bitwits Go Anywhere Do Anything PC build, although he did have a little more room in his.

Going over what you said about it though makes me realize that the heat spreader for the M.2 slot would be in the way for mounting it in. Thank you for making me think about that. A few more things to think about then. Thank you.

The configuration of the case is all the same, you cant change that. But the components you put in adjust what you can do with the components. Rewriting now that somebody pointed out a few flaws in my design. Will post a fixed build in a little while.

After a little reasearch and adjustments. I ended up changing the GPU, the RAM, and the PSU. Anybody find any problems with this build that I overlooked?
