Gtx 1060 Underperforming?

Go to solution Solved by DrMacintosh,

Reinstall Windows.

Clearly there is a larger software issue somewhere that wont be worth trying to fix. Just start over.

Hello!

I feel like my 1060 is underperforming, as in PUBG for example, I'd get an average of about 45fps in game with these settings. On the other hand, my friend with similar specs but an RX 580 says he is getting around 80+ fps with those same settings. I don't think it's my GPU that's the problem though, as I had an RX 580 not long ago that had to be RMA'd (fan issue), but it ran similarly to this also, so I'm thinking it's either the CPU or the Motherboard. Is there any tests I could do in order to be positive of what part may be the problem, or if there is a problem at all?

Here's an image of all the other parts that could affect the performance at all.

Thanks for any responses!

You think it's a software issue? It could be I suppose, I'll try reinstalling windows tomorrow to see if that helps. Thanks for the response!

You can check its info directly in game with MSI Afterburner's on screen display function (need to install bundled RTSS), including temperature, fan speed, clock speed, vram usage etc. Some of these data might show the reasons of its poor performance. My own guess is that the card is overheating somehow, therefore Nvidia's GPU boost doesnt kick in, making it much slower than expected.

Oh, that could definitely be a reason, I'll try that out tomorrow before I reinstall windows in case the info doesn't reveal anything. Thanks very much!

this couuld be quad core time share issue.  the gpu lanes just do not get enough time to run faster.

also what type display?

personally ive asked xbox to lock my console to 52±2 fps rate for smoother experience

i think the xbox x gets 70+fps but i havent had chance to fiddle with it yet

these are (1920x1080)p) fps so if 4k then easily cut fps in half

with pc gpu cards its been few years (waiting for some stabil cards to appear as theyve all seemed quarky in their behaivors)

I have a 1920x1080 display.

Also, I just performed the Unigine Superposition benchmark and got the results listed here. I'm not sure if this is an okay result, however comparing to some other people's scores, it seems to be right in the middle.

your cpu does not support trusted execution so disable that in device manager under acpi tab

also do windows registry fix that disable SSE4.0 and below as again its not supported

then make sure mobo bios has onboard gpu disabled or gpucard is selected(pciex)

also check intel site for utility that allows cpu graphics be disabled/reassigned as i know this not bios option

Umm, I'm not sure how to? I can't find the acpi tab within device manager, either that or I'm REALLY blind.

Yet again I'm not sure how to do this. I'm very inexperienced when it comes to this. :(

This one I think I did correctly, I changed the setting to IGPU. (Just realised IGPU stands for integrated graphics... I'll go change that now, so no I didn't find this one either)

I read around and it stated that as soon as a GPU is detected, the integrated graphics are automatically disabled, unless I read some false information.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Even if I couldn't do any of them :/

  • 7 months later...

I had a underperforming GTX 1060 6GB too. Figured out the issue, at least in my case. I'm running a gtx 1060 6gb. The problem was the EVGA Precision X OC software. For all pascal users who have previously used that software, please reinstall it and set it to defaults. Then uninstall EVGA Precision and never use it again, instead use MSI Afterburner. Restart the PC. Then use DDU to uninstall graphics driver and reinstall the latest graphics driver but uncheck geforce experience.
