Hi!
I'm looking at building a new computer to do my heavy lifting during design work as a master student, using the Adobe family, CAD software like NX, SolidWorks etc. and rendering software like KeyShot. Also, I want to optimise the computer to fit me as a semi-enthusiast gamer (i'll mainly play OW, but I enjoy triple A titles).

Here is my current component list, and I would love some feedback!

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 16GB, CL15
CPU- cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H60 CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z270I Gaming, Socket-1151 (I want WiFi capability)
Harddrive: Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 PCIe SSD (This is the part i'm thinking might be overkill at this point, would love some input)
Processor: Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Processor
PSU: Corsair RM750x 750W PSU

Case: Fractal Design - Define C Black

Fan(s): Corsair Air SP120 PWM Quiet 120mm Vifte (I would love some feedback on optimal fans for this build, to create the correct amount of pressure)
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Sea Hawk X

Screen: AOC AGON 27" LED G-Sync AG271QG (I picked this as it has an IPS display, but also G-Sync and a high frame rate)

In advance, thank you very much!

Go for fractal design define s for the case, the current one is good and a bit smaller

960 Pro is recommended, it is the top of the ssdchain

overall it is good

@Trekt Nation Currently i was thinking of 16GB, but going up to 32 doesn't seem unreasonable concidering the build as a whole. What do you recommend?

if you can get 32 gb I'd say go for it, I'm almost maxing 16 gb right now

Ty, that's great feedback. In your opinion would you be willing to trade down on performance for higher capacity? Just thinking about the budget.

It really depends if you need the extra performance but since you're going to tap into more capacity than you will noticing that you need more speed

Why not Ryzen ? The extra cpu cores should be helpful for what you are doing.

Honestly, it's only because I don't know alot about AMD, but reading the reviews of the 1800X and 1700X they look like they would be amazing for rendering. Do you have any recommendations for an alternate build using a 1700X for similar performance? Would I have to swap more than the motherboard?

Thank you so much for the help.

I'm sorry, I didn't quite understand that sentence. Do you mean that using more memory also means i need more speed?

Ty, all though this basically downgrades the entire build to a 1080p build. I don't necessarily want to pay less, but rather optimize performance per dollar or my usage. This is a great starting point though, and i'll take it with me.

Ok, and later on you can upgrade the monitor, right? And free gaming mouse from MSi haha!

I think you may regret your CPU cooler choice. the 7700k is a super hot chip and the single 120 mm AIO will not be able to cool it better than a premium air cooler.

It also won't be more silent because there will be a pump and fans which you probably have to run quite fast to make up for the smaller surface area. The pump will be an additional point of failure too.

so I would say go for a premium air cooler or get a bigger AIO

Thank you! I'll look into it. Is there room for two AIO's in my build though? Concidering the seahawk GPU?

probably. I used to have a 240mm rad on top with some space in the back for a rear exahust. it is also a define C.

so you could either have a front mounted 240mm and put the Seahawk as exhaust. or try to squeeze the 240 on top.

Right now, I'm trying to decide wether to go for the Ryzen 1800x/1700x/7700k. I won't be able to afford the build until i get my next paycheck, so i'm looking at various reviews to see how much time i will actually save rendering if I go for the Ryzen option.

Also, i'm looking at waiting for VEGA, and considering going full AMD with a FreeSync monitor as well. Totally open to suggestions. As of right now, AMD seems to offer a lot more per dollar in the CPU department, but not so sure with the GPU.

If you want full performance on Ryzen check This cooler out. if you want to go smaller Go for this one
