I'm thinking about upgrading my 3570K to a ThreadRipper CPU sometime after they come out. I will probably go with whatever model has the highest clock speed and so far I think that's the 12 or 14 core but I'm not sure.

going from an i5 to a threadripper is a big difference in core count lol. what part of your day requires a 12c/24t+ chip just curious

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Nothing really other than your typical power user stuff. Mostly I want one because it looks awesome. Might wait to see what the i9 CPUs are like compared to the i7s too.

I'm excited only because it's a big cpu ;)

I can't lie that's part of it too. I mean just look at that monster.

Threadripper is way out of my reach though, even if I were to buy used in a few years it'd still be expensive. So I'm probably gonna go with some old socket g34 opterons to satisfy my tinkering needs. ^_^

If I saved for a while I'm sure i could eventually get ahold of one but I won't be doing that until easily a year or so after launch.

Wait it uses LGA ?!

Gotta say AMD you hooked me up. I will maybe throw my i5 in trash and get that one.

fair point lmao. Im curious as to whether my Kraken X61's CPU block is even large enough to accommodate such a large CPU. Im not in any need of more than 6 physical cores (+hyperthreads) myself so I'm not interested in buying it, but it's great to see AMD doing actual things again :D
