Hi,

My friends and I will be building a dedicated streaming PC on the cheap (that running streaming software, not games) and I was looking at CPUs. The PC will basically be taking input from a mixer and capture cards. Two CPUs that we were looking at was the Pentium G4560 and the Core i3-6100. At a glance, they look fairly similar; both dual cores, etc. My question is whether or not to get the i3 over the Pentium. The Pentium is definitely cheaper, and since they seem so similar, it may be worth buying over the i3.

Like I mentioned before, we're trying to keep this cheap because we're on a fixed budget. Any help would be nice.

Thanks!

Follow up question: Here's the part list my friend gave me. Just wanted to get a second opinion before I hit up Micro Center and Newegg.

CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 or Intel Core i3 6100 (probably Pentium)

- GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

RAM: Kingston 8GB DDR4

- Storage: SanDisk 240GB SSD

- Motherboard: MSI H110I Pro AC Mini ITX LGA1151

Any thoughts?

What is your budget if I may ask?

I made two builds, but I just noticed that i went ten bucks over budget on both. Up to you, I think your list is fine too. The gpu will handle most of the encoding anyway.

I like the Ryzen build more. More cores! The Intel build is ok too I guess..

I think both have their advantages and disadvantages. I think the Intel build is somewhat more useful, due to the additional hdd that they can use to save their sessions on for video libraries. Also, the g4560 is actually pretty good for its price. Sure the R5 1400 is one league above the g4560 (2C/4T vs 4C/8T) as evident from here: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1400/3892vs3922;

BUT is it really necessary for a streaming only build?

It is about value for me! OP will get more bang for the buck by buying Ryzen. The Intel g4560 will always face severe bottlenecking. It is almost a pity to use a 1050ti on this cpu, so no, I would definiely go for the R5. The cpu has a cooler included that is amazing as well. If you add up the price of the aftermarket aircooler of your intel build @honor and compare it with the price of the 1400, it is obvious that the 1400 is waaaaaay better for the price.

@Michaelvas17it is really up to you, but if you want a reliable encoding machine, you should DEFINITELY, go with the Ryzen build.

if the price is too high (19 bucks over budget...) just ditch the SSD for an HDD OR swap the two sticks of ram for a 8gig one (should cost about 30-40 bucks less, though i wouldn't recommend it).

Ryzen build seems definitely more promising as far as encoding is concerned. I'm aiming for at least 1080p30 streaming, and guessing that the Pentium will be a bottleneck, it might be worth it. 16GB RAM does seem a bit overkill, but since we're aiming for the high encoding, it might be worth it. Would opting for 8GB instead of 16GB cause a dip in performance? I will probably opt for a HDD instead because we might be recording on it, so 240GB might not cut it.

if you drop the SSD, the Price will come down enough. You can always add one later. Also, Ryzen heavily benefits from high clockspeed ram, so I wouldn't skimp on that. ;)

Make sure that you get a B250 motherboard wheny you buy a G4560. But a Ryzen 5 1400 would be a better option if you could afford it.
