Write speed could easily be the same. The thing that makes an SSD so quick is the short Random Access Time.

Depends.

 

Random reads and writes should be better by at least an order of magnitude, and most likely much more.

can only go as fast as your slowest part. read from one to the other or using the network, what were you expecting?

try reading from /dev/null and writing to your drives.
