Thunderbolt will not be coming to Ryzen till like after 2018

No duh.  tb3 is obviously better but if OP wanted, for example to use the Samsung t3 external ssd as it is a USB type c and not necessarily a tb3 device.

 

Same applies for connecting a type c phone or flash key.

Actually I was looking for thunderbolt's capacity to anything, that bandwidth is amazing.
And usb, I m ight even get that on a mobo itself.
