Alright guys,

I recently checked my RAM in System Info and it's says I only have 12.0GB Installed/Total Physical Memory when I've got 16GB in my motherboard.

I installed RAMMon and it confirms that I have "Total Physical Memory: 12207MB (16384MB) I was wondering if this means that I do have 16, but is only using 12, or if System Info is incorrect, etc. Many thanks

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Check the bios to see if memory remapping is enabled (should be).

Check msconfig > advanced to see if maximum memory is set (it shouldn't be).

Cheers for the quick reply, max memory isnt set. Any idea what the typical key is for getting the bios up?

I've only got a Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 2GB. Given its low spec, might that be it?

no, wanted to make sure you weren't iGPU.

it's an i7-3820 on X79

oh... it's an X79 board - those a usually triple-channel, check your motherboard manual for which slots to use for 4 DIMMs

right, and if it's not being used, then it wont take system RAM, which is why I ask.

Sorry, I dont follow about the HEDT and "i"GPU.

M.I.T Says 16GB RAM and Sys Info Says 12GB.

Also max memory isnt set.

HEDT is High End Desk Top, and typically they don't have Integrated GPUs in the CPUs. Sometimes a motherboard will have video, but i honestly don't know how often you see that anymore. probably not at all.

Ok, so its the missing 4GB is probably because I have an X-79 board given the info I've provided?

Sounds like you have 6 slots and 4 sticks. There is a very particular format in which you need to place the sticks for it to work properly, although I think that would only affect dual channel mode rather than rendering a stick inopperable.

OPEN THE MOTHERBOARD MANUAL AND LOOK FOR THE PICTURE THAT SHOWS YOU WHICH SLOTS TO POPULATE FOR FOUR DIMMs

Those are the places where my RAM sticks are installed. Any other ideas?

swap them around, maybe one of the channels is dead or one of the DIMMs is dead?
