At this point, id save up an extra 100$ and buy a nice K series i7 and an Z series MOBO

This is my current pc

CPU: i3-6100

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX

RAM: 8GB 2133 DDR4

Storage: 1TB HDD + 240GB SSD

GPU: GTX 980 SC

Case: Corsair 100R

PSU: Corsair 750W 80+ Bronze

I was looking to upgrade spending around $200-300 USD.

I want to upgrade the processor, but if I do take that route then I am not sure if I should switch to team red. If it would be worth it to buy a new motherboard and processor.

Why would you do that for an H110 board?

I'd say get a 6700, if it's not much more, only like $10-20, a K one and be set.

No need for a Ryzen or something. And then later when you feel like it, you could get a Z170 board for your 6700k.

Look at used ones OFC.
