I'm looking to build an all in one backpack solution that can charge the following devices all at once at least one time each, and have more left over.

  • Microsoft Surface pro 4 2.58a 12v
  • Phone  1-2a 5v
  • Android 2.85a 5v
  • iPad 2.1a 5.1v

I am looking for a DIY soloution, but I have a relatively limited understanding of electricity.

There are complete options out there but they are super expensive, and pre made, which leaves no fun for me! I was looking into standalone recharable Li-Ion batterys, and connecting multiple smaller battery banks in series, but I have no clue how to do it right. I can solder.

How do I calculate how much MAH each device will need per full charge?

How do I connect multiple smaller battery banks?

What converters do I need to make this happen?

Should I purchase 12v battery banks to connect and convert them to 5v for the other devices, or 5v battery banks at higher wattage and convert up for the Surface?

I have more to spend, but I want to do it for under 100 USD, which I think is doable considering how many 5v 10,000mah portable batterys there are on amazon for $20.

Thanks for sharing your experience/knowledge. I hope to make a post logging and explaining each step of the way after I get it working for myself!

maybe dont then?

id just buy a power pack for each device and tape that to the backpacks inside or something.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

makes more sense then, duknow how you would do this good but buying cells of ebay is something you can do so that could be a way to get your capacity

If I just connect them in series, will it add the voltage and/or the amperage? And how would I recharge them?

series should be more voltage, paralel more capacity. you would have to build/scavange a chargeing circut, dont know how you would do that exactly but i know you would need one

Cool. Then could I connect multiple converters/transformers in parallel to the output of the display thing to go to the Surface Charger and usb ports for phone/tablets?

This looks like a more promising battery: https://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc-20000mAh-Dual-Input-External-Portable/dp/B01422TC14/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_107_bs_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CTPCC0ANA6Z2PY2S7J4C

Would it still work if I modded a USB cable?

possiably, i dont really know how much current flow that thing can take but if it can handle it then yah you can probably do that.

depends on what you mean with that, like really, what would that entail?

40,000 Mah, 5v. Enough to charge the average phone 16 times, or a Surface pro 4 twice!

Well its only possible because of a 50% prime discount on this product, so to make it otherwise I would have to resort to ebay.
