I'm looking to buy a laptop for general purpose use for when I attend college, Does anybody have any good recommendations for a laptop that is around £350. The only use for it is just school work which is mainly just taking notes and writing code, No gaming. Thanks if your able to help!

I can't really use a chrome book if I am planning to download and run scripting applications

I was in the same boat last month (starting classes in the upcoming fall semester), and I opted to go the refurbished workstation route. Picked up a HP Elitebook 8770w for $385 and it's a great machine for what I'm planning to use it for.

 

Something like a refurbished Thinkpad would be a great machine for taking notes and word processing. They're light, powerful machines and can be picked up for a decent price.
