i got this phone for free from my phone operator and they say tha the phone is locked so i can only use 3 as my operator. is there anyway that i can remove the lock? via rooting the phone or something?

yeah you can take it to most phone shops (not main shops like vodafone or three) and then will do it for 10-15 pound. i find that people like vodafone and three are abit picky on unlocking there phones

Can i do it by myself? via some program? or do i need to give it to the "experts"?

as far as unlocking it by yourself i dont know, i know you can do it online via something like this http://www.unlockmyphone.io/ but ive never tried it and dont really wanna try it
