Recently my computer broke and I troubleshot it and found my PSU was dead... So I looked on the box for warranty stickers but did not find any so I wonder if amazon will let me return my PSU. I looked online trying to figure it out and I was wondering if I should get a better PSU like a silver or gold power supply would it be less likely to break? Also the PSU had plenty of room for airflow. Also I was kind of wondering if it was my power supply in the first place... Here is what happened: So one morning I woke up and my computer was off and the power button was blinking.(it was left on with no games running. And I obviously didn't touch it during the night) So I tried turning it on to my demise. (Didn't turn on) So I turned off the power supply, waited a few moments and then turned it back on. I then pushed the power button and it turned on for about 3 seconds... I then heard a small pop and saw smoke rising from what seemed to be the power supply basement or the graphics card. It then turned off and the power button started blinking again. So I brought it to a work bench plugged only the power in and tried turning it on... I had a freind look with me and all of the fans were spinning and the gpu led came on(the power could come from the 8-pin and the pci-e could have shorted) and it turned on for about 4 seconds but we smelled a burning smell. Shortly after it turned off again and the power button started blinking.

PSU: EVGA 700 b1

Refer to specific models, not just marketing.

Silver and Gold have nothing to do with the actual quality of the PSU.

Pop a question or two in this thread, or pick something from tier 1-3. (tier 1 being the highest.)

How long have you owned this PSU?

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

PLEASE QUOTE OR @ ME FOR A RESPONSE xD

EVGA B1 isn't that great

Don't judge PSU quality by efficiency

And don't cheap on PSU

IMO get a new PSU that has a better quality

You can see if Amazon is able to give you a hand (e.g. speed up the RMA process), but you should be getting in touch with EVGA directly.

The B1 PSUs have a 3-year warranty through EVGA.

  1. Start the RMA process for your EVGA 700B
  2. Get a hold of another PSU (e.g. from a friend) and make sure nothing else in your computer is damaged / fried
  3. Consider getting a higher quality PSU (e.g. EVGA G2/G3/P2), and selling the 700B once you receive a replacement
