So I'm at my aunts for the weekend and she has a pretty good internet speed 5q2Vj.png

she has a Virgin Media Superhub too.

So when I'm on YouTube watching 720p videos, the internet just goes off. I have to reset the Superhub everytime it goes off, and it goes off evey 10-15 mins.

The thing is I have a Superhub at my house and when I was on 30meg internet, we had 2 laptops, a PC, 2 iPod's and an iPad running off of the thing and the internet never went off. At my aunts we have a phone, laptop and sometimes her Pentium 4 pc on the internet.

So the question is, am I being Throttled by Virgin Media at my aunts?

I would guess so. I have Comcast and I get 10x HIGHER speeds when using a VPN, you could try that and it may fix it. It won't if they are throttling pure traffic, but if they are throttling just YouTube it will. Fiber can not get here fast enough.

Throttling =/= loss of connection. Throttling would be a reduction in bandwidth, which doesn't seem to be what is happening here. I'd say you have a problem, but I wouldn't say it was that you are being throttled.

One thing I do know is that ISPs sometimes handle traffic for popular sites like Youtube and Netflix differently to better manage the load on their networks, so it's possible that you're being cockblocked by one of the servers which reroute traffic to/from Youtube. You can even get around throttles on these sites by blocking particular IP addresses or as Bluethulhu says by using a VPN.

Since you're only there for the weekend there's not a lot you can do, but in the long run I'd say to call Virgin.

I VERY highly doubt you get 10x higher speeds when using a vpn its impossible. Vpn's if anything slow down your internet connection.

It could be you've gone over your data limit or just a problem with the router. Also 2mbps upload seems pretty slow for a 31download speed. I have 25down and 6up speed

I live really close to Chicago and have a speedy VPN. My download speed its a couple Mb/s faster, but my upload soeed is tremendously faster. Comcast throttles the hell of me because I frequently download, run servers, and use streaming services. I use a VPN on my phone over cellar and its sluggish, so VPNs do slow down on an unthrotrled connection frequently.

Well if your being throttled then thats why the vpn is faster. But when your not being throttled then the speed is about the same as the vpn.

Comcast is a pain and throttles Youtube, NetFlix, and any site with cat videos. Granted, I have charter at home, and the college next door causes the line reg voltage to drop out and kill my internet... LETS GO WINTER BREAK!!!! These dang college kids taking my internet.  Still waiting on charter to fix it.
