Hello, I am working on a my first build and I've ran into a little hiccup. I am planning on using a gtx 1050ti and a core i5 2400 processor. I bought a lenovo thinkcentre m71e on ebay that had the I5 a motherboard and 8 gigs of ram. However when I purchased it I didn't realize that the motherboard only had a pcie x8 slot. Will a gtx 1050ti work in this slot or should I get a new motherboard? Also if it will work is there going to be a performance dip?

It'll work, so long as it's PCIe 3.0. a lot of integrators really bastardize the IO on prebuilts.

it'll work just fine as long as you can actually connect it physically(manufacturers like to add plastic pieces at the back which blocks expansion cards with more pci-e lanes).

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

I donno... the more i'm looking at it, the system originally shipped with a HD5450, which is a PCIe 2.1 card, and the i5 2400 only supports (according to ARK) PCIe Revision 2.0. Now the 1050ti may or may not work, but at 8x on a PCIe 2.0 link, it's certainly not going to work very damn well.

it'll work just fine, PCI-e 3.0 and 2.0 is backwards and forwards compatible, and the lower bandwidth still isn't enough to bottleneck the 1050ti.

PCIe 2.0 @ 8x is what, 4000MBps?

so PCIe 3.0 @ 4x is the equivalent-ish? Think a 1050Ti wouldn't saturate a PCIe 3.0 4x connection? I honestly don't know what a 1050Ti will output. Any numbers on what it's throughput actually is? google-fu is coming up short. All i really see is the GDDR rates, and the PCIe 16x vs 8x debate. nothing on 4x...
