Play sound on TV only if VLC is on TV

MatoCupka

Hi,

I have my 5.1 speakers connected to my computer and I have just connected my TV to my computer using HDMI, in windows' sound options I can select TV as my default audio output, but I only want sound to play from my TV if program playing videos like VLC, Win Media Player or Firefox with YouTube opened is opened on my TV not on my other monitors.

Is this possible?

Thank you

you should be able to click on device name in windows volume slider menu and choose another sound device

Not what OP wanted. He wants the audio output to change based on which monitor/tv the window is.

Can't be done. At best check if you can set VLC's output to always be on the tv/hdmi connection. Other than that you're stuck to changing audio output manually.

Only other way would be custom software that detects relative position on screen of specific window and forcing audio output on desired device. No such software that I know of, though. Making it is a headache just thinking about it, not to mention getting it to work properly

also almost all fullscreen games and some apps can't change audio device when running so you can change it when game (or other app) is running and other apps will use new, while game uses old sound device but i'm not sure. I just know that most games can't change it when running and will keep use one that was selected before

This isn't what you really want, but it is imho the best option you will have... I use a program called "soundswitch". It automates the process of swapping audio outputs of your pc in almost an instant (binding it to the hot-key of your choice).

For example I have headphones and a speaker set plugged in to my pc at all times, when I want to swap between them, I click left on my mouse. Takes less than a 1/10th of a second, and works great in all but some full-screen games (which as mentioned earlier don't like swapping on the fly much).

This way I never unplug my audio sources.
