Is this a outdated build?

Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

You're worrying way too much. The i7-6700K is still a great CPU and will last for at least 5 years plus before it truly gets "outdated".

Anyway, as I like to say... if you're going to always wait for the next big thing, you're going to be waiting forever.

Hey guys,

I finished building my pc in october 2016(except for the gpu).I brought an 6700k(october) with 16gigs of 3200mhz(august) ram in a maximus viii hero(august).Could i have waited and have gotten a better pc.How is ryzen 7 1700 is compared to the 6700k both in gaming and video editing?I am a gamer but i might open an youtube channel and then i might edit some videos.

You are fine for a long time lol, no reason to buy an r7 over a 6700k, the i7 still outperforms r7 in gaming and is still decent for video editing.

Maybe if you got a 6600k, but that i7 will last for sure, especially when you overclock it

Have you seen any review?and also the viii hero seems quite old compared to the new ix hero.Asus has added rgb headers to most motherboards in this generation. In the previous generation they gave it to the viii hero alpha and above,i think. But now their giving it to motherboards cheaper than $200.SO is rgb controller better than this onboard rgb?!

I think you are obsessing too much with what you have, technology progresses way too fast and no matter whenever you get new hardware, newer hardware will come out shortly after. Just imagine the people who bought a 980 ti right before the GTX 1070 came out, only to find out the GTX 1070 performs EXACTLY the same for HALF the cost. All you are losing is a couple of RGB features and a couple of bucks really.

ALSO, if you for some reason decide to go with a 7700k and later kabylake CPUs later on (WHICH YOU SHOULD NOT) your motherboard is perfectly capable of doing that, it will last you for a long time.

Alright...............I get it.

How about this for a benchmark...I have an i7 950.  Gen 1.  The only things I've updated in my system are better SSDs (60GB SATAII SSDs were $220 when I bought them) and updated the video card twice over 7 years.  It's only now that I feel the need to build a new system for gaming, and even then the old one is going to be relegated to a number of other secondary tasks.  Your upgrade need is going to be completely based on how you feel sometime down the road, or if you take up a new hobby like video creation, editing, 3D rendering, etc.
