In Linus's homemade router video, he mentioned that Taran modeled a shroud for the cooling. What program did he use, and how much money do I need to shell out for said program?

If you have a student email (.edu) you can download inventor. It's fairly simple to make stuff on it and you are able to save them as stl's.

Any program that can export objects as STL files will work. Anything from AutoCAD to Blendr to 123D Design. And those last two are just a small portion of the free ones.

TinkerCAD is good for very simple designs. Google Sketchup is a bit more advanced. Both are free.

 

Actual CAD and/or 3D design software will also work, but those generally cost money. Also possibly more complex than needed.
