What up peeps? In a bit of a pickle. Any input is appreciated!

I currently have the xps15 9550 but my laptop has quite a bit of problem loose hinge, driver problem that just won't go away, buzzing sound from the speakers, sticky spacebar. It's ridiculous for a laptop of this caliber to have so many problems in less than a year. Since I had Microsoft complete for laptops, I'm getting a refund in order to buy a new laptop.

I'm a second-year computer engineering student and I'm having trouble deciding between two laptops: XPS 15 9560 and surface pro (both 16gb of ram and 512gb SSD). I like the fact that I get dgpu with the XPS, and the 4k screen as well that I don't have to pay to get the type cover. However, the SP has the advantage of the S-pen (that I will definitely buy), to help me take notes on OneNote which I had no idea would be this useful until I saw my friend's notes on onedrive. The way everything is ordered, in folders, for example, classes/Ece106/Notes or classes/Ece106/exercises was amazing, without the need of buying 6 or 7 notebooks every term or other school supplies. Furthermore, the SP has a better battery life (that's what's written on the specification page so it's most likely less than said).

Now I'm just wondering if it's worth it to pay the premium price of the SP plus the price of a type cover and a stylus in order to get a laptop-tablet hybrid that's only a dual core without a dgpu nor a usb type-c. I do have to say that during the school semester I won't be playing but I will be playing a lot of games during my co-op term if I'm not back home in Montreal where I have my ryzen 7 build. So right now it's a battle between power (xps 15) and convenience (SP).

Thank you very much!

EDIT: forgot to say that I'll be receiving around 2520$ as microsoft store credit. SP is 2519 with student discount (without pen or typecover) and the xps 15 is 2599 (for 16gb of ram, 512gb ssd 4k) and it doesn't have a student discount.

There is always the possibility to go with the xps 8gb ram 256gb storage with a student discount for 2159 dollars(so still 400$ left) or the SP i7 256gb storage and 8gb of ram for 1800 with student discount, So I'd have more than enough for the type cover and stylus and some money left as microsoft store credit.

That's the reason I'm still on the fence about getting the SP vs the xps 15

I'd blindly suggest XPS (regardless of facecam position).
I did an extensive research on it, trust me. But still would suggest to wait for more replies as I may get proved wrong or there may be some other better laptop.

RIP english....

I never video chat so I don't really care about the camera position

lol of course. Probably the reason I can't choose is because there aren't any reviews of the SP yet.

Surface pro, well is not good for eng. believe me, I'm also looking forward to Civil, so personal advice is no.

The keyboard is an issue, the I/O, the performance, is still weird for new users.

(it'll thermal throttle more than XPS)

If there was a surfacebook 2, that fits my budget with 512gb storage, 16gb ram, dgpu for around 2500-3000$ I would buy it in a heartbeat. But right now it's too expensive, old and not powerful enough
