I've played something like 500 hours since beta, including ~100 hours as NC and 50 hours as VS and it's still fun. I haven't been playing as much after launch because I've been busy with work, but I made BR 30 on my TR and have played several hours of the other factions on other servers a few times just for something different. I can tell you NC and VS have no reason to whine like they do on the forums and in game and they need to stop with the TR nerfs. If they nerf us again our superior skill and intellect may not be enough to continue our complete domination of the NC and VS lol.

I downloaded it today and spent about 6 hours playing it in total, at first I did not know what the hell was going on or where to go or what to do, but after a while I got the hang of it and managed to keep a positive kdr. I got a few upgrades on my light infantry, such as armor improvements and also got a red dot sight for the AR. It seems like if I paid money for the credits I could just deck myself out and go through a lot of people so might be a bit unfair, more like pay to win. But after the 6 hours spent on it I haven't even touched air craft or most land vehicles so there is a ton to do. It's a fun game but there is a lot of room to improve. Oh and one thing I don't like is that if I were to buy a weapon with my real money, it would cost me 700 credits, now in the credit shop you can buy minimum of 500 and the next one up is 1000. So you'd be forced to buy 1000 credits, I don't like it when devs are being sneaky like that.

I dont get this games, whats the main objective ? Capturing? or I might need to play it bit more!
Its a capture/defence game. You are either capturing a base or defending one. The main goal is to control the most territory on any given map.

I guess it's probably the GPU, since you're probably running at 1080p and I'm running at 1620x1050 AND my GPU's more powerful. I get 40-60fps depending on the action on screen at max settings.
Yeah, I suppose that's true. I didn't realize how underpowered some of the AMD chips actually are. After all I have a 3570k.

Higby's posted a huge update list, which I'm guessing will be implemented very soon:

Hey all!

Happy New Year, I hope you all had a great 2012 and are having an amazing start to 2013. On the Planetside 2 we had a pretty **** fantastic 2012, but we're looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2013! I've said before that while 2012 was the year that Planetside 2 launched, 2013 is the year when we're opening up the afterburners and aiming for the stars. After a well earned rest the team is energized and ready to get back to "kicking *** and fixing bugs. And we're all ou--" er, oh yeah, okay, we've still got some bugs to fix.

While we were out we were still paying attention to the forums as well as twitter, reddit, facebook and all the other places you guys interact with us; we've heard a lot of your excellent feedback, ideas, concerns and consternation. One of the biggest goals of our team has been and continues to be listening to our community and following YOUR direction for what this game needs to become. We're going to be talking a lot more about this philosophy in the coming weeks and how community involvement is going to directly impact our development schedule & priorities as we reveal "our" plan for the next 6 months. For now, we wanted to address some of the biggest issues we're seeing come up over and over again, so that's what we're focused on for January's update.

Game development can be messy and there is always the possibility that something from this list may slip or not pass QA, and more details will be released on the specifics of all of these items as we get closer to the patch date, but I wanted to get this info out to all of you as soon as possible, so with that in mind, here are some highlights from what the team is working on finishing up for
LU02
which will be released on
1/30/13
.

  • General performance increases, particularly for lower end GPUs

  • Experience (XP) system enhancements:

    • Dynamic XP system for player kills, players who have more kills on their current life are worth more XP. Freshly spawned players will be worth a fraction of the current kill reward.

    • Partial damage XP for dealing damage to vehicles that you don't end up killing

    • Population XP / Resource bonus moved over to continent population instead of global

    • Better display of XP sources for things like defensive bonuses & population bonuses

    • Rebalancing of XP rewards to help support tasks

    [*]
Server transfer token available in Depot

    [*]
UI changes to emphasize score per minute as a primary metric of player comparison

    [*]
Sortable columns on outfit management & addition of "last online" column

    [*]
New weapon type for all empires: SMG

    [*]
Short period of invulnerability will be added to freshly spawned / revived players - breaks upon game actions such as entering a vehicle or using a weapon.

    [*]
Dynamic / player configurable colors for minimap & overhead indicators for enemies, friendlies, and squads within a platoon

    [*]
New Hot Spot system that displays where active fights are occurring on the map

    [*]
New spawn buildings with more exits, protected balconies and easy roof access to make them less campable.

    [*]
Tunnel systems for amp and tech facilities to give access from spawn rooms to interior of bases and base walls without having to go above ground.

    [*]
Making MAXes render more reliably at long distances for players in vehicles

    [*]
AA improvements, notably flak changes for turrets and skyguards, giving them some better ability to aim, although not drastically impacting their DPS.

    [*]
Fixes to missiles so that they more reliably detonate and actually blow stuff up

    [*]
    Air vehicle weapon tweaks

    [*]
Increases to reload speed for certain HE ground vehicle weapons

    [*]
And of course... lots of bug fixes

Whew, it's going to be a busy month! We know this doesn't address every issue that's been brought up recently but we hope it knocks out some of the big ones. Hopefully you will see from this update (and the feature plan for the next 6 months, when that is revealed) that we're taking your feedback and concerns for the game very seriously. We're here, we're listening and we're committed to continue to work with our community to build the best online game the world has ever seen.

As always, your feedback is very welcomed, here, on reddit, on twitter and everywhere else you may find us.

Cya on Auraxis!

Matthew Higby

Creative Director - Planetside 2

@mhigby

Edit: I wanted to add that just because you don't see things like "metagame fixes" or "render distance" on this list doesn't mean they're not high priority changes or that we're ignoring those issues - they're just larger problems and as you'd expect that means they generally take longer to solve. Just because something isn't getting addressed this update doesn't make it lesser or lower priority than the things that are addressed in the patch. When planning an update we have to balance what we need to do with what we can fit. Those type of large scale adjustments are built from a variety of changes over a long period of time, not just one bullet point in one update note. Once we have the longer term plan out there for you guys to look at you'll see how some of these more meaty changes slot into the schedule.

Looks great! :D

Played Planetside 2 since beta, never played the original but I'd be keen to. It was fun during the beta then I got really bored of it quite quickly then when it got released all my friends finally had it I found it a lot more enjoyable bought a tonne of station cash those fully sick cosmetics and farmed so many certs during the double XP weekends, but I actually haven't touched the game for about a month now and since this thread I'm tempted to start playing again.

True, if you hit Alt. + F it will show you your frame rate counter in game in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Right next to the counter it will tell you if it's being run of your CPU or GPU, 99.99% for everyone that I play with and for myself it's always on CPU. I've got an FX-8120 OC'd to 4.7Ghz. @ 1.4000V and at max I'm getting a little over 100fps, and in large (500+) battles in dips down into the 60's for frame rate.

Have been playing since beta as well, and I LOVE this game. There is so much to be had for all, and if your new to the game I highly recommend going through the tutorial, it will help you out ALOT. If anyone is interested we play as New Conglomerate (screw you Barney's & Elmo's LOL) on the server Connery. It's a high population server and there is always tons of action, feel free to check us out if your interested and want to join our outfit or just jump in a squad and see how things go. Our TeamSpeak3 info is on our website at mdgclan.com and as this game goes, the more the merrier. Hope to see you guys on the battlefield and the new updates should be a welcome change. And a little hint, if your new I highly recommend certing into C4, it's the most fun I've had in a long time, can be very sneaky sneaky or straight up brutal in your face ass kicking :)

I've been playing since beta and still play ever day. Over 700 hours in right now. After the next patch I might quit though, it depends how it turns out. Not enjoying the tank/lib zerging, spawn camping gameplay they created through terrible map/base design and overly armored vehicles with HE rounds. I really wish they would take all the AI weapons from the vehicles or buff the rocket speed so vehicles can't just camp infantry then back up a bit when they see a rocket coming at them..

I downloaded this game a couple days ago. Played it twice. I gotta say I don't get anything! I'm too lazy to learn everything :/

The game is too immense for me because nothing you do individually matters and it's definitely a game you need to get all of your friend in on to enjoy. but they are mostly too busy playing league.
