If the drivers are downloaded and are extracted to a specific folder, you should be able to manually install by right clicking 'unknown device' > Update Driver > Browse My computer for driver software
Search for the folder where the driver file is located or extracted to and make sure to place a check in 'Include subfolders'.
Click Next and it should install it for you.

Did your friend try downloading the LAN drivers directly off the ASUS StriX Z270H website?

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z270H-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/

If on Windows 10 64-bit, the latest version of the LAN drivers should be Version 21.1.30.0, dated Jan. 10, 2017.

Once downloaded, you just need to extract the folder, and install.
