Can you recommend a good cooler for that price you mentioned for the ASUS ROG Strix GL553VW FY147D then?

Buy a cooler IF you need to. That is test it's stock cooling capabilities before consider whether you need one. What if what others say are false and the cooling is actually nice?

If you need one, it's better to search "best laptop cooler 2017" sth like that so you get the most up-to-date info.

Hello everyone!

I'm currently looking for a not so expensive notebook which I can use for gaming too. I don't mean the high settings stuff, so far what I've looked at had GTX 960Ms and stuff and that would be fine. I looked at the buyers guide, but sadly here in Hungary you can't get that HP Pavilion 15T with GTX 1050.

On a Hungarian forum they recommended the ASUS N551JW-CN212H notebook over the ASUS ROG Strix GL553VW FY147D. They said that the GL and X series notebooks from ASUS are bad and I should buy that N551 instead, but that one only has a Hyper-Threaded i5 against a Quad-Core one in the RoG.

Which one of the two is more recommended? Or can you recommend anything else within the same price range?

Have they mentioned why the GL and X are bad? On paper the GL laptop is far superior, the performance difference of the two CPU is too large to be ignored.

Just did some searching on problems with GL laptops. As far as I can find, the problems are mostly touchpad right click button not working and screen not going back on after sleep. These are not that uncommon in laptops in general, so I don't consider them reasons to not choose this laptop series.

They say that they are cheap constructions without efficient cooling and the plastic case is bad quality.

Cooling: Use an aftermarket cooling pad. $50 can get you a good one.

Plastic case: I haven't seen a budget gaming laptop without people bi*ching about plastic. It's pretty much why it sits at this price range with this hardware
