Hey, I already got these components, but am wondering what I could/can do in the future to improve. I'm waiting for next-gen NVIDIA cards to come out, since the 780 Ti basically maxed the architecture of the current one, so I opted for an AMD 290X because it's also very powerful and came bundled with BF4 so it saves me tons of money than getting a 780Ti.

I spent extra on the motherboard so it could handle 2 2014 SLI NVIDIA GPUs, as well as the in-built cooling and sound card.

I'm also saving for a 2560 monitor with G-Sync when they come out next year, as well as custom water cooling, but I'll be buying those parts piece by piece and should have it set up by spring 2014.

Here's the build, let me know what you guys think:

Cheers!

You could save money by getting an i5 4670k.

Seeing as that comes out to about $3000, I don't think saving money was ever an issue...

I dont recomend not getting a $220 case.

Its kinda over kill when you can get a define r4 for less.

I like it a lot, however i think a define R4 or a Corsair 750d would be better than the current case unless you really like the design of the NZXT

are you going to overclock the CPU if so get an after market cooler, but if your not planning to overclock you might as well save a few buckss and get an i7 4770

hope this helps

Thanks for taking a look, guys.

I got the 4770k $180 off, it was actually almost the same price as the i5.

I really liked the features and the aesthetics of the NZXT, so that's where I splurged some cash, I agree I could save there but didn't particularly want to.

I'm actually particularly concerned about the memory (4x4 vs 2x8, if that would be an issue), and whether getting an AMD and then saving for next-gen NVIDIA cards is better than just going for a 780Ti.

Well the thing with buying a i7 instead of an i5 when you could do with the i5 is that it's sometimes stupid imo, if someone wants to spend money let them do it, but if someone is doing it because he doesn't know better or could get better performance. So I guess my point is that I'm annoyed by money saving suggestions on almost every thread.

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum

Yeah I'm doing custom water cooling (work in progress), but couldn't list the parts here on PCPartsPicker, plus I'll OC when I upgrade my GPUs, but not for now.

(I don't get why people buy 144hz monitors they're not good IMO, just get a decent IPS monitor for the money)

Looking good for now mate, you did well by choosing an R9-290X :D

Personally i would go for 2x8 memory just because of the upgradability factor :)

as for the GPU that is totally up to you and how long you are prepared to wait for next gen nvidia, plus mantle at the moment does sound pretty appealing

That's actually a "typo", I got a 250 GB SSD. Gaming/video editing/boot/semi-pro graphics design programs in frequent use.

Ah okay. i was going to say as a boot drive (im assuming) for OS and programs you could save yourself a good amount by jumping down to 240 or 256. but nevermind!

The 780 Ti is a bad value..

There really aren't any upgrades worth it atm. Wait for new, cheaper parts to come out.
