Hey wonderful people,

My PC is due for an upgrade and haven't been following the PC market lately.

I need assistance looking for a GPU that:

- Gets consistent 60+fps (bonus if it gets closer to 100fps+) Max details w/current system

- less than $500 CAD (New/Used and flexible with price)

- I plan to play the following games: PUBattlegrounds, Overwatch, Quake Champions, GTA 5

Current Specs: 144hz Asus Monitor, AMD FX-8320, Gigabyte Windforce AMD 7950 (one fan stopped spinning/stuck but still works), G.Skill 1600Mhz 8GB RAM

Additional Notes:

- I would like to know if its worth upgrading the whole system to achieve constant 100fps+

- I hope to get VR eventually, but that is likely after this year

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Across the vast and majestic gulf of time and space, the jimmies rustle softly.

Geforce GTX 1070 MSI Gaming X about 410 dollars. I just realized you use CAD.. Maybe look for a used 1070 they are great for 1080p max settings especially with a 144hz monitor that can utilize more than 60 fps.

I would upgrade to ryzen because it is newer aka will hold for longer (also better single core performance) but I am not sure if you need it.

RX 580 isn't a huge upgrade from a HD7950 really, so yeah, I'd say R9 Fury or GTX 1070 is what you should really be aiming for as a GPU upgrade. That said, your FX-8320 is definitely going to be holding you back, especially in GTA V, so a CPU upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea.
