Hello, I'm trying to build my first pc, and I wanted to make sure all these parts worked together. I don't have any previous parts I can use to flash bios or anything, so I wanted to make sure these would work out of the box. Also, can I use the 960 Evo m.2 ssd as a boot drive? It wasn't on the list of supported drives. Similarly, the ram was not on the list of supported ram for the motherboard. Will it still work?

-power supply is way overkill

-get a non founders edition 1080 ti

-960 evo doesn't improve boot times or app launch times, it's a waste of money. Just get a 1tb 850 evo instead.

Pretty solid setup man, I pretty much have the same setup except I have the 6700k. And too your ssd question, yes you can have the 960 as the boot drive, I have mine as a boot drive. The hero board is a extremely nice board, the ssd will work perfectly fine. Just when you start the PC up, make sure the 960 is priority over the other ssds/hdds.

Edit: If you wanted to save some cash, I'd tune the motherboard down, that specific one is made to OC like there is no tomorrow. But still a solid board.

Also forgot to mention, do you even have the wifi to make use of the 4x4 of that Asus wifi adapter? It's really expensive and probably not useful for you...

Ah you see the problem you have there is that your still buying intel now that ryzen is out... give the red team a try will yah?

If they're only gaming Ryzen isn't worth it.

Is there a motherboard yall suggest? I do want a lot of pcie lanes for expandability.

The insane amount of fans is cause I'm paranoid about cooling. First time doing this and that's one of my main concerns.

Why not Founders edition 1080ti?

I recognize the psu is overkill, but it's better to overkill vs underkill right? Also I want room for perhaps an sli in the future.

Also I just like Intel, don't want to use ryzen (although ryzen is pretty cool)

PC is for gaming and *some* video editing, mostly gaming

Edit: Also will not explicitly supported ram work?

I was half joking about the ryzen thing I tried to show it in the tone of how I typed it.... also the founders edition cards get really super hot and make a ton of noise... after market coolers are dead silent when not gaming.

Unless you are doing heavy OC don't bother with a high end board. It's a waste of money. All boards have the same amount of pcie lanes (16, 2x8 for SLI), as lanes are supplied by the processor.

Parts are good enough to cool themselves.

FE is loud and mediocre. Good for water-cooling, but other designs from OEMs like the EVGA iCX and MSI Gaming models are better.

850w would be enough for that system total, even with SLI

Go for Intel here - best gaming performance now.

idk

You only really need 850w even if you go sli. 1000w overkill over overkill.

Which one would you recommend instead of founders? Preferably not over $750 and one that won't get too hot

If you want rgb, the aorus is pretty decent. If you want a lot of control over fans (you can control fans individually) and/or want to be able to monitor vrm, mosfet, and vram temperatures the evga sc2 is a good option. If you feel like going to the top of the $750 the Asus Strix is probably one of the best when it comes to temps and noise out of all the air cooled 1080 tis. Note though that once you get into semi decent 1080 ti territory they all overclock pretty much the same, so getting something like the strix over the aorus won't give you much of a performance jump, it'll just run a bit cooler and maybe quieter.

Because the the cards with aftermarket coolers usually run quieter and cooler. And some will cone factory overclocked.
