Freesync? A-sync?

I'm currently thinking of upgrading my GPU in the near future, as I have started playing more games than before and my 960 isn't doing my i7 any justice :P 

I'm thinking of going with an RX580, and I want a 144hz Freesync monitor to go with it. I was looking at the Asus MG248Q, which is actually quite affordable even though it has all the things I'm looking for at 350$ ish. My problem is that I've seen some reviews talk about how it has freesync, while there is no mention of this in Asus' specs on their webpage or my retailers' specs. Sometimes it says it has Adaptive Sync, which AFAIK is some Vesa tech. I was just wondering if it actually has Freesync, as I understand why it wouldn't be branded as such due to the 3d nVidia thingy it also supports?

Freesync is based on Adaptive sync, so it will work fine.

 

I'd suggest not getting the RX580 just yet and wait for one or two months for Vega though

Sorry, not happening. 27" 1080p is a nono, I already have 2 60hz Asus monitors. 

My question was if the Asus monitor had Freesync

Yeah, I'll be quite caught up in work and school for the next few months so I guess that's a good idea :P

Freesync is based off adaptive sync. If it supports adaptive sync, it supports freesync.
