No that's a total nonsense for me !! I agree that it will be quite silent, but mainly because of the bad efficiency at small load, I wouldn't do it.

By the way, does someone have a link which shows efficiency at small loads ? I never really saw it myself.

Wow it depends a lot on the PSU, even if they are all good brands. Average efficiency changes from 87% to 77% at low load from the best to the worst :O
