144hz monitor reverts to 60hz on click?

on my desktop, my 144hz monitor runs 60hz. if i change it, it works at 144hz, but as soon as i click on the screen it changes back to 60hz. could there be antyhing making it revert to 60hz? also, when i enter a game it changes to 144hz oddly, and stays there.

Maybe the GPU is slowing down when you are just viewing the desktop?

its not that i can tell its 60hz(well i can) but it reverts in the geforce control panel too.

But it goes back up to 144 in games?

for some reason, yes. on one monitor i have geforce control panel open, and on the other i open a game and the hz in geforce control panel switches to 144, but when i tab out it changes to 60.

If it works in games it shouldn't matter right? You'll still get the 144 hz when you need them.

Are both your monitors 144hz?

Yes, but not everyone wants their equipment to work incorrectly. OP should be getting 144hz all of the time, they shouldn't have to settle for it not working on the desktop.

Try resetting your power saving settings or setting it as high performance to see if that makes a difference. You could also try reinstalling GPU drivers. 

 

Does this also also happen if the 60hz monitor isn't plugged in?
