Monitor Goes Black

When connected to my laptop using a VGA everything worked fine except that sometimes lines were "kinda" moving a little bit like a wave but it really didn't matter for me. I bought an HDMI cable and I'm using it now but then sometimes screen goes black for a second then just return, no errors or what so ever, It just turns black. Why is this?

Did you do anything before the monitor went black, or does it just turn black randomly?

But if you're having problems with BOTH the VGA and HDMI, then it's either the monitor, the GPU or the drivers. You should try to update the drivers (if they're up to date, just reinstall them), looks like a driver problem to me.

I'm using a laptop.
VGA problem is that some lines are kinda wavy and nothing else, HDMI fixed the wavy lines but screen goes black every 20 mins or so.

Ahhh, okay. Seems like your laptop screen is not functioning properly. Looks like you'll need to contact your manufacturer. <- nvm, i thought the laptop was the one that didn't work

If it's the laptop, do the steps as i said before.

If it's the desktop, try to update (if they're already fully updated, reinstall them) your GPU drivers, just to be sure.

Oh, ok. Take it to the laptop manufacturer or a shop that'll fix your computer. I'm not a laptop enthusiast.

It's the laptop screen, not the laptop.

and what is that?

uhh, if your screen is showing garbage, then it's probably the screen. however, i'd just suggest an RMA

Wheat OP means is that the monitor is the screen that is playing up an going black, not the laptop screen.

Why does it not go black with VGA then

idk, it might be the GPU of the laptop or the monitor. I'd suggest RMA'ing or taking it into a computer shop that can fix it. I'm not an expert in these things.
