So I had to download a program from Sourceforge (bad idea already). The reason was that my teacher needed us to install fritzing on our computers to work on a project. When I downloaded the installer I realized I messed up by even downloading anything from that site. Soon after I found out our school computers had the program I needed I just used that. However, ever I downloaded the installer (I didnt run it either it was a .JAR file) Ive been getting popups. Ranging from advertising to an unknown window that flashes every hour on my screen to my screen flashing black randomly. My computer is a Dell XPS 13 9350 that was supposed to be new but was actually refurbished. So What program should I use to rid myself of this anomaly.
Thanks =/

You can try using Kaspersky's Rescue Disk to remove the malware. It'll boot before Windows so that your issues don't start up and mask themselves.

Download MalwareBytes and run it. Get an AV program as well, but NOT Avast or AVG. You get what you pay for..... Pun intended. Its shit. Try Norton Trial just to scan. You get the full version as part of the trial. Then remove it. Stay away from McAfee... I'd seriously recommend purchasing Kaspersky.  Yes I know.. You'd have to pay.. Sorry.

Is Avast that bad? I've used it for the past couple of years. It can feel a tad bit bloated at times when it tries to turn on email signatures or register me, but if I silence it then it's not too intrusive.

I don't believe anything is "Free". Free trials lead to purchasing a subscription. I don't fault those. But 100% free antivirus, I don't buy. Most of my clients with Avast have a bunch of other issues that are either caused by Avast or easily get past it. Malware, Adware, and all sorts of other goodies. It seems to slow many systems down as well. I try to stay away from it. Also, Avast purchased AVG, so I don't really trust that one now either.  They don't hand out software for free. They get something out of it...

I know people hate having to pay for things, but 30-40 bucks annually isn't that much. A couple cases of beer. Or less than that over-rated AAA game title.

malwarebyte followed by adwcleaner will get rid of it.

As many people said: you should use Malwarebytes and run a full scan. However, if the virus wasn't found, I'd recommend running a "rescue disk" (basically a live OS that boots alongside Windows, which has an antivirus. This way, no matter what the virus is, it can't do anything. Some good examples are Bitdefender Rescue CD, Kaspersky Rescue Disk, Avira Rescue System, etc. ) on portable media (USB, CD, DVD, etc. It should be easy.)

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux
