I didn't know where to make this thread, so I decided "Software" was the way to go and neither of the other's seemed right.

Basically, I've heard that a good rule is to add 1.5 times the RAM in your system(In total of course). However, windows recommends way less than this. I've got 8 GB RAM and windows recommends 1911 MB of virtual memory. This is kinda weird since for 4GB it suggests 1.5GB more, but doesn't increase a lot when moving to 8GB.

Is there any disadvantage to using more than the recommended virtual memory? Any sort of risk at all? And what'd you guys recommend?

You only use more space from the drive. Some may get scared about using their SSDs write cycles. But if one counts how much of them is used after year of normal use, that shouldn't be any issue.

I think 1.5x rule is valid for RAM under 8Gb. After that you just need to have some to make sure everything is working. And add some more if some software isn't happy.

I have 8gb worth of pagefile. Small on SSD to make sure I can handle things if HDD doesn't work for some reason (happened me twice on previous mobo). I've had that 8gb all the way. Since I only had 8gb physical and now when I have 16gb. I have space on HDD for it.
