BIOS/Motherboard Stumped

Go to solution Solved by mrzoltowski,

DO NOT flash with anything else other than the manufacturer's bios.

The latest ones are here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H61ME23_B3.html#down-bios

I searched that number you have at the top and its for a Viglen brand Motherboard:

https://www.viglen.co.uk/viglen/Attachments/products/Vig640M_motherboard.pdf

Now It could be the MSI board is just a rebranded Viglen board. But it could be that MSI has their own implementation ... even if one thing is off you will brick it.

I do NOT recommend messing with the non OEM bios.

Hi everyone, I don't normally need help with this kind of stuff but this motherboard has me absolutely stumped.

The motherboard (I believe) is a H61M-E23 (B3) from MSI which is running a rather dated BIOS which lacks Turbo Boost options which I find odd as I know someone who has the same motherboard and it supports it.

The issue I am having is attempting to flash the latest BIOS (or any) from MSIs support page for this model motherboard. M-Flash in BIOS tells me that it can't find the file and screams at me to put it on the root of the USB (which it is btw).

Now what I find totally odd is that whenever I boot I get a splash screen telling me its a viglen bios. I also have the ability to dump the current bios to a USB stick which I did and its file name gets stored as E7680IV1.A55-E.

I google the first part before the period (E7680IV1) and get a few FTP links to Viglen BIOS update files, latest one is from 2014 however I am hesitant to flashing one of these out of fear that it will fail. I am wondering if anyone here has any idea whats going on.

Hello after some research and digging I have discovered that all drivers hosted on that FTP site which hosts the BIOS files as well all install correctly for this motherboard. So I took the risk by attempting to reinstall the same BIOS listed and it flashed however oddly enough attempting to flash the updated BIOS from 2014 fails to flash telling me its not the same board yet the file itself states its for the same model board. Odd. Thanks for your help.
