compare MSI GT73VR Titan Pro Vs. Acer Predator 17

Hello all,

_{(Off topic: I've been a huge fan of LinusTechTips' Youtube channel, so I've come for help on the forums.)}

I would appreciate some deep insight about each laptop's respective given specifications as well as comparative feedback between them.

 

Comparing the two:

Laptop 1: MSI GT73VR Titan Pro-425

      ^vs.

Laptop 2: Acer Predator 17 (GX-792-77BL)

 

Here's the full (XoticPC.com) list of laptops within my specifications

 

Necessities:

-I plan to use my laptop for high performance gaming as well as programming.

-My budget is $3,000.

-I am staying away from Alienware.

-Sager is still an option, but I don't know much about their brand/build quality.

-Open to other laptops so long as they hit AT LEAST what the above laptops have to offer.

the acer looks good, it has a slower SSD but it has double the storage.

Also any reason you are staying away from alienware? At this price point they are a great option.

Both are quite good, if I had to choose I'll go for Acer since upgrading parts will void warranty in MSI laptops

Thank you for your response, Mohenjo. And I've decided to stay away from Alienware due to the rumor of tendency to overheat as well Alienware being too flashy in my opinion.

you mean the other way around. Acer voids warranty on upgrades. MSI doesn't.

Their newest one is better than most. the Alienware 17R4 is quite good. If you don't like it the Aorus X7 DT v7 is good too. I prefer the MSI GT73VR over the Predator. The Sager ones get the best performance.

Hmm I couldn't be wrong...At least at where I live, you can void warranty if you open up MSI laptops for upgrades like RAM and SSD

What about the UHD vs FHD? Will FHD run higher framerate, or will they be around the same rate? Higher resolution should prove to be tougher to render, even on desktop GPU, correct? And would the laptop therefore run much hotter?

1. framerate=FPS, frequency=Hz, don't confuse them. Hz depends on what panel is installed by the manufacturer

Okay so... I WAS going to say get the MSI. But then I noticed it's far too damn expensive for what it offers.

Get the P775DM3 instead. Get it from here ONLY. If you buy it from anywhere else you'll get an overheating, throttling piece of shit and I won't even feel sorry for you as you were warned properly.

 

i7-7700K, 1080N, 16GB 2400MHz RAM (it'll be Kingston hyper X and if it isn't ask for it, which is the best 2400MHz RAM laptops have now), 8265ac wifi, take no OS and source your own, a 256GB 850 Pro in SATA slot 2, leaving the 1TB 7200RPM in the main slot, a 500GB 850 EVO in M.2 slot 1, 120Hz 5ms panel (the panel should support Gsync as it does on the MSI models, ask them if they can somehow arrange this if gsync is something you want).

 

And you're set, $3006 USD. Same 1 year warranty as the MSI (though I'd suggest springing for more if you can) and a solid machine. Should have zero overheating issues and should run perfectly fine, you get far more/better storage and storage options than the MSI, and well... it costs less too.
