is installing windows 10 on a chromebook a good idea?

I'm thinking about installing windows on my Chromebook so I can install a proper VPN for school. is it a good idea?

I am using an Acer Chromebook 14 (I think.)

 

I hate chrome OS and looking for a change.

I don't think that would be a good idea. Maybe Windows 10 since its more light weight. You could try it but I am not so sure it would be the best of experiences.

if it can boot an usb drive I don't see why not, it still an x86 system.

 

My only concern is can you revert it back? does it have recovery disk or is it in the hardrive?

I would never ever want to revert it back. it's only chrome OS I can do all that on Chrome on windows 10. and if the IT department at my school wants me to revert they can do it themselves. its my chromebook that we bought from from a third party website which has no correlation with the school. so its all good. i think a couple of people have done it already on their chromebooks.

another question. would windows 10 even run smoothly on a Chromebook? or just lag tf out

I never had any chromebook

What is the processor?

Because my laptop is an old B960 dual core, and it runs fine, lag/slow is just expected but never freezing.

so I'm guessing anything new would be better than that

 

my concern with chromebook is most are using emmc instead regular HDD or SSD, so I don't know if that amount will be sufficient.

it's running a Celeron 3855u which from what I have read is probably the lowest of the low when it comes to CPU performance.

this is what I did I would check out galliumOS, its very good. I have the c720 and someone wrote a custom bios to run windows, though it means removing the write protect screw and I don't really want to open it.

i have already taken out the write protect screw

you can dual boot another Linux distro with proton and it will still be less intensive and run better than Windows

I've never found one most are paid, right now I'm using opera with its free unlimited in build vpn.

Beware of "free" VPNs... If it's free, you're the product, meaning they're logging all your plaintext data and maybe even guessing the encrypted stuff and using it to target ads better and sell you stuff you don't need. Buy Tunnelbear (not affiliated in any way) or some other legit VPN...
