Hello!

I’ve recently upgraded my GPU to the 4070 Super. Should I upgrade my CPU as well? I don’t know if it will be a meaningful upgrade. I’ve got a i5 12400F and 32GB of 3600 MT/s CL18 RAM on a ASRock B660M Pro RS board.

I was thinking about buying a i5 13600 or a i7 13700, or changing my platform completely to AM5 and Ryzen 5 7600 or waiting for Ryzen 9xxx. I’m not afraid to buy used hardware.

I play single player games in 4K DLSS on TV and multiplayer titles like Fortnite and CoD on a 1440p 165Hz monitor.

Thank you very much for advice!

a 4070 in 1080p might pose an issue for your cpu but in 1440p or higher youre almost certainly gpu bound, upgrading wont do you much use i dont think, id say save youre money for now

Agree with what was said already. You can also check/confirm this yourself, e.g. with MSI Afterburner or Intel PresentMon.

Unless your GPU load is well below 80-90% while gaming, a CPU upgrade isn't going to benefit you. In that case your overall performance is limited by the GPU, not the CPU.

Even if the GPU is slightly held back, as long as you get playable frame rates an upgrade isn't necessarily worthwhile Unless you're chasing the highest possible fps, no matter the price.

agree with what is already been said, that said if you like to run stuff in the background when gaming I highly recommend the 12600KF (or 12600K if you need iGPU transcode and/or ECC memoryà.

13600K (not 13600 non-K) is a decent step up on the 12400 in terms of gaming performance, but since you play at 1440p & 4K, I doubt you'd notice much improvement. If the average FPS is very important to you and/or you use low settings, then that could change the calculation.

I wouldn't bother with that.

That's an option, they're often a pretty good price, so assuming the OP could sell their 12400 it might only cost.. say ~$50-$60.
