Hyperthreading issues!

i have a xeon x5670 and running windows 10 and I've been monitoring my computer with hwmonitor on a separate monitor while playing games. i could see all 12 cores six physical and six hyperthreaded 0 through 11. just as of today I can't see cores 3 4 5 6 7 or 11 which I assume is hyper threading. hyperthreaded is turned on I don't know what I did to make it to where hw monitor doesn't see it. I'm seeing the performance hit in my games as well. i can get above 70 fps no problem in gta v and now i cant get above 50 and the world map fps sat above 150 and now its all over the place. task manager says that I have 6 cores and 12 logical processors device manager has 12 listed hw monitor is the only one that is saying that it can't see all 12 and ever since it stopped seeing all 12 that's when my performance tanked. plz halp

ive been dabbling in overclocking and have messed up quite a bit so please let me know if that can play a factor.

Check your mobo's bios and see if any cores are disabled.

Hmm. Sorry, but I'm not experienced with xeon cpus and mobos. If you can not get any help from the ltt forum, then youtube and google searches might serve you better.

if i put in ht or cores on google or youtube it brings up a WHOLE bunch of other stuff :,(

 try disabling hyper threading and see what happens, if it goes down even more it means you have cores disabled

OMG this is pissing me off I disable hyper-threading everything Remains the Same but my GTA performance went up

its still not showinf in hwmonitor it just stopped all of a sudden idk whats going on u have any recommendations for monitoring software

You can try cpuz for the simple info and hwinfo64 to get all the sensors

Clear cmos load optimal default settings in bios and reinstall windows

I've done that whole checklist it's not Windows because everything else is seeing it just not hardware monitor

Install Msi afterburner and run the overlay in game with all the threads on the overlay and see if they have usage

That sounds like a software limit on the number of logical cores. Performance improves because you go from 3+3 to 6 the cores. 

However, all similar cases I've seen involve windows settings being changed, so in principle it shouldn't survive a clean install. Hence, it must be something else..

like you know I'm running an x5670 as well. I've experienced the behavior of not seeing all cores in software as well however I'm certain that all are working as intended.

as long as you don't see any performance problems you are fine.

 

also disabling hyper threading can improve gaming performance for games in a lot of cases.

Yes HT can hurt xeons in gaming but my rig is a recording, video editing, and emulation machine as well. i just wish there was a soft disable for ht instead of rebooting. But hey as long as performance monitor is showing even the slightest activity on the hyperthreaded cores I'm happy. And a quick question is anybody know of a benchmarking software that really pegs hyperthreaded cores as well so I can see if there is activity.

i did not mean to be rude it was stated ( if it's not clearly stated I apologize) that hwmonitor was picking up all 12 and then all of a sudden just started picking up 6 and now as of the moment it doesn't pick up any.

But I have to go to mention that it starting to pick up 6 happened after a clock watch dog blue screen and the picking up none happened after the computer crash due to a unstable overclock both were while the program was... *has epiphany* did i break the program i never did uninstall and reinstall... damn
