It bit depends, for a Ryzen build you can expect a real performance improvement in multithreading with RAM of higher frequency (the Infinity Fabric runs on the same frequency as the RAM and it's basicly the communication between the cores) and If you can leave one slot open for example you could add more If you experience RAM issues ("random" freezes in programms and stuttering while RAM is capped or nearly capped or even the information that yopu can't run it because of to low RAM.

But usually you should benfit more from quantity since modern systems today are capable of even more multi processed programms than in the past and these need to get stored somewhere during the execution, you can get away with 8GB even today but 16GB should be recomanded  at least in my opinion.

PS: Intel builds and gaming performance can improve with faster RAM, too but most of the time the efffects are kinda negligible and will only occure if there is enough "horsepower" for the application is left so that the memory speed is limiting/bottlenecking at some point, but as I said most of the time the performance increase is <5% at max.

16gb would be better (Speed isnt that important for Intel, is for Ryzen though).
