CPU Upgrade Options

I'm stuck in a gray area with my CPU (AMD A10 7700k.  It is fine in some games but bad in others.  I've almost had it for two years now and since I have paired it with a delicated GPU it's almost time for an upgrade except the lower end cpus are not worth it.  The I3 6100 isn't any better than what I have.  And ryzen 3 isn't much better either. I don't want an Fx chip.  And I don't have 500$ for an i5 upgrade.  I don't know what to do.

R5 1600 Upgrade. You can make a MOBO RAM and CPU combo for around 350 USD. I'm looking into doing it.

And if you dont have enough money for the 1600 the 1400 would also be good.
