Is this a PCI-E slot?

Can you post the images here?  There's no reason to link to another site

Looks to be PCI, but would help if you provided motherboard name (Can check yourself with CPU Z).

PCI-E 16 slot.  It's present with other PCI-E slots on the board, it's closest to the CPU, and I've never seen someone color a regular PCI slot any color other than white/putty.  Also PCI doesn't have the lock clip.

PCI, old standard.  PCI-E 1.0 x1 has the rougly bandwidth as the original PCI standard if using a 64 bit card.  Most non-server PCI was 32 bit, so was only capable of 133 MB/s I believe.

How much performance will I lose?

If I use a RX 550 in that slot.

Depends if it's x16 or x8 or lower.

I edit my posts a lot.

It IS a PCIe x16 slot, look at the picture again, see that locking mechanism at the end of the slot? You don't see those with PCI slots, do you?

yes you are right I thought he wanted to ask if he were to put that card into a pci slot how much performance he would lose. But you are right, and i didn't see the clip first time i glanced at the photo. but piney pointed it out

by way you can seat a pciex1 card into any pciex slot regardless of x4x8x16

infact creative ones will find that while not lockable a pciex1 card with the slot plate removed fits into a x16 slot backwards with normal facing ex1 slotted at same time.  one each end of the slot as if they back to back

BTW, is there any way to check what generation of PCI-E slot it is?

Not from the slot or pin, but usually they'll print it on the board and they'll definitely put it in the manual.

That's...mindblowing.  And silly.  But you definitely proved that someone's made regular PCI slots something other than white/putty.

Can you find the motherboard model?  It'll probably be printed on the board somewhere.  Alternatively, is it built by a major manufacturer?  If so, you can pull the specs from their website.
