Moving a desktop PC

Guest
Go to solution Solved by Aereldor,

Take out the HDD and GPU. Package the rest of the system into the packaging of the case and ship that, maybe put it inside another cardboard box for protection. If you have a big-ass tower cooler, then take that off too, although last we spoke you were running stock cooling, so you should be alright.

Put the GPU and storage into their own boxes, and keep them with you.

Put the monitor in its own box. You can keep it with you or ship it along with the case.

I will soon be moving away (still in Canada)

I have this desktop PC with monitor and peripherals (kb is g710+ and mouse is g402)

Specs: mATX asus h81m e, powerheater rx 480 4gb red dragon with 1 fan, oem cooler for cpu (similar to a stock one), 2hdd, 1ssd and 1 odd.

What are some ways to move it

I could ship it all

Take it with me with separate components (the case is a big thing but I could prob ditch it for convenience and run everything  w/o a case in my new place or then look at used cases. I will be buying thermal paste for my gpu soon too so I could remove cooler so basically leaving everything to bits) on air.

Keyboard and mouse is no problem.

Not sure with monitor, it's a 21.5 " asus vp228h, can remove the stand as well but that's about it.

PSU is regular atx but non modular.

1x8 RAM, it's small so I see no problem

120mm x1 case fan is small too

Cables as well and that's it

I am not near my PC so can't measure dimensions and weight, but will call Canada Post to see options available for me. Meanwhile looking at all siggestions. Forgive me if I am slow at reaponsing, I turned off all notifications.

Just throw ideas here.

Put the PC in the case's box and ship it that way. It should have some padding inside.

I would take the GPU out and put it in its own box, then ship the PC in the case. GPU's really the only part of the system with enough leverage to break anything if the system gets bumped. If you have a large air cooler, consider removing that too.

Pretty far, almost from 1 end of Canada to another end. Can't tell exact location because reasons but it's approx from ON to BC

Shipping is much easier than dealing with a large PC in person.

I'd personally remove the GPU and HDDs (prone to vibrations) and pack those separately. Done multiple times shipping it across the country (took it as a checked luggage on the flight).

Any damage by putting them checked? I am afraid those people could handle the pc improperly and damage it

Pretty sure computers are surprisingly resistant to fall damage. (nothing crazy though)

Best you can do is putting it back into its box and shipping.

I don't know what is available in canada but I know here in the states you can go to a post office or a shipping store (Here we have one called the UPS Store) and you can bring an item and describe your situation and they will package it for you and then while you are there you can have them mail it for you.
