Hey guys, I was not sure if this thread goes here or troubleshoot. However, I came across SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 500GB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V6E500BW

I really want an M.2 SSD that is fast for my primary drive on my system. I have MAXIMUS 9 CODE motherboard and I had a SATA SSD that was not working properly. Will it be possible for the 960 EVO SSD to work on my motherbboard? If so, I also want to run 2 Hard Drive on my system

Is this possible

I thought the mother board support nvme ssd?? What do you suggest me to do

His point is that nvme won't improve your boot times or app launch times at all over a sata ssd.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Or this:

@DocSwag

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Not even a little bit? Anyways I have a SATA SSD M.2 and i is not working. BIOS doesn't detext it

nope, won't at all. The bottleneck is elsewhere, you'll only see benefits if you're doing prosumer stuff.

Why won't I benefit from the nvme feature? What shall you suggest me to do? Since I told you, SATA SSD did not work for me. It was not detected on my BIOS. I changed the settings and tried a lot of things. So I want PCIE SSD

more like drive fault not mobo

if your hdds are working, there's not reason why it shouldn't work with the SSD. If the ssd is not detected, you have 3 options:

cable is defective, ssd is defective or port is defect on the mobo

I'll exclude cable or device defective! Since it detected it when I put it on a different port on my motherboard. Says PORT 2 not supported sata

user manual shows port 1 support Sata

also no cable involved here it's m.2 lol

I don'T get it:

the ssd that didn't work: was it an m.2 sata drive or and standard 2.5 inch sata drive?

If it is sata and m.2, you can only use it in one of the m.2 ports of the mobo that's true. But if it is detected where is the problem?

Yes my mobo has 2 M.2 ports.

The first one supports M.2 SATA SSD

The second doesn't.

When my SATA SSD M.2 is sitting in the first port, I launch the PC and it tells me SATA drive detected in port 1. Please change it to sata

so I go in my BIOS, change onboard drive settings I change it from PCIEX to SATA and I also tried AUTO. Nothing works. It's as if not detected.

im afraid to buy another SSD and it doesn't work on my mobo

but that sounds more than a buggy mobo or a bad drive than a general problem with sata drives. and why not get a 2.5in ssd and hide it somewhere, they are most times way cheaper and you won't notice it.

first off, I'd try to update the bios and see if works, and if that doesn't work and help, rma the m.2 and ask for a new one or ask for a refund and get a 2.5in ssd
