Hey all

I am looking at getting a new streaming pc and i do not know what cpu to get for it.

I have been looking at the 7700K and Ryzen 1800x

Now this pc will only be doing the encoding as i have a dual pc setup.

What cpu would be the best to grab for a the rig? As it only has a £2 price change.

Neither.

1. Get a R7 1700

2. Overclock it

3. ???

4. Profit

You do need a GPU however.

1700/1700x, add in a lower end GPU (maybe an old one if you have one shelved, maybe something like an RX550?).

it's usually recommended to go with some form of GPU in your streaming rig even if you have an iGPU to take that load off of your processor, at least on the thermal and power draw side of things. and it would also allow you to use something GPU accelerated on the stream rig, if you're into that. (or use GPU encoding at much higher bitrate for local recording while streaming)

also, if someone's gonna storm in screaming nvenc, quicksync, or whatever AMD's gpu thing is called.. they SUCK compred to having an entire processor dedicated to x264 :D
