I have two old VGA monitors and I want to put them to use, but my graphics card only supports DVI, HDMI, and Display Port. Does DVI type matter when converting the signal to analog VGA? (i.e., DVI-D, DVI-A)

According to Wikipedia, DVI-D is digital-only and DVI-A is analog-only. But, I am not sure.

DVI-D can be connected to other DVI ports

DVI-I can be connected to other DVI ports and VGA ports

You don't need to know anything else, DVI-A doesn't really exist outside of google search diagrams and wikipedia, I honestly don't know why people mention it so often in forums. You can find it sometimes as a connector on DVI to VGA adapters since only the analog portion is needed, but the compatibility is no different than an adapter with a DVI-I connector, so you can just ignore the distinction. If you have a DVI-I port, you can use a DVI to VGA adapter. If you only have DVI-D, then you can't.
