Hey so i'm about to do a cpu upgrade and i'm going re build my system. i have an anti static strap but i have a a question. if you could answer them that would be great :)

If i have a spare PSU without an on or off switch can i just plug it in at the wall and turn the wall socket off or can i just leave it on? (it's an old server PSU)

I have never once worried about static... at all... because think about how often you get static shocks on things like doorknobs... like 2... 3 times a YEAR tops... so the chances of it happening while your building a computer are practically zero...

antistatic wrist straps are like wearing elbo and knee pads to ride your bike a mile down a flat road when you've been riding bikes for 10 years...

derp

While today's components are much more resilient to static than they used to be (better topography), the static that would kill a cpu would not necessarily be strong enough for you to feel when discharging.

Also people probably should consider how many components they have had that where DOA.  Because it is entirely possible that a certain percentage of DOA parts actually died due to static on insertion.   Keeping that in mind when you are faced with having to go back to the shop or resend gear for DOA replacement, is it really worth it for a $5 strap and the inconvenience of wearing it?

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
