Hey guys, I was recently messing with my overclock to see if I could get my CPU to clock any higher. I oc'd my memory to 2400mhz on auto voltage, and I put my CPU at 4.7 and pushed it as far as it could go. It wasn't stable after a while so I undid the overclock. I never pushed it past 1.36 volts.

I did various stresstesting including prime95 for an hour, and since then, my motherboard and CPU temps are idleing at around 40 degrees. The motherboard reports say it's at  45 degrees (celcius) and the CPU reports idle temps of minimum 35 to around 45-50.

I'm using a 6700k and an h100iV2, I have 3 intake fans and 3 exhaust fans, even at 100% fanspeed I can't get the system lower then 36.

wtf is wrong? any ideas?

What program are you using to check temps? Also what voltage are you running that OC on? How are the Temperatures when stock clockspeeds and auto voltage. Check you Voltage either with CPU-Z or HWmonitor. It could be that you motherboard overvoltages you CPU with that auto setting.

Can you post a couple pics of your exhaust setup? To include the h100i exhaust? Also what case are you using?

I'm using an NZXT H440. I've got the H100IV2 exhausting through the top, 1 120mm exhaust fan and 3 120mm intake fans.

It's not a case of my airflow - i used to idle at 20c and have maximum 50c at load, now i'm idling at 45 after testing my overclock, even though the overclock is now fully undone

then either the software broke or your temp sensor did

Temp sensor maybe. Temps are all over the place, system can't seem to decide what the temps are

then that probably took some shit, RMA your motherboard if you still can

Please never use Prime95 to stress your Intel CPU's, or really any CPU just to be safe. Linus and other reputable reviewers have stated that Prime95 stresses CPU's to rediculous levels, to the point where it can actually damage it or the motherboard. That is my best guess as to what happened. Use Aida64 and/or ASUS RealBench instead, much safer, and will still tell you the validity of an OC.

Send a pic of the exhaust from the outside of the case. There is something I just want to check.
