When I play Overwatch at anything over 30fps, there is an awful, constant, slightly high pitched static feedback through my headphones that doesn't seem to happen with any other games. The static is also audible to other people I'm playing with, using the Blizzard App for chat.

 

Anyone else had this problem? Would love to play it at a higher fps but the noise is really annoying. At first I thought that maybe it was like a coil whine from my graphic card ( EVGA Geforce 1070 FTW) but my friend who knows a bit more about computers said this is most likely not the issue even with my ex overclocking it to 31%.

 

Any advice helpful :)

Where are your headphones plugged into? The front panel or the back of your motherboard?

They're are plugged into the front audio jack, as the audio cable for my monitor is into the motherboard, do you think this could be the issue?

They're are plugged into the front audio jack, as the audio cable for my monitor is into the motherboard, do you think this could be the issue?

I've experienced static feedback from the front audio ports on my case because most ports on the front arte not shielded, or grounded. This means any sort of electrical interference emitted by anything including some of your PC's components could be picked up by them. I would try plugging your headphones into the back (usually its the green 3.5mm jack)

Ok cool, I'll give that a try, it'll just mean one of my audio outputs will always have static then. Still not sure why when I turn the fps down to 30 that the static decreases massively.

At lower frame rates, your components aren't working so hard.

This means, electrically, they're producing less noise, and thus you get less interference...

 

Although saying that, if you mean cranking up the settings causing a frame rate drop, your graphics card is working just as hard...

In this case, it's likely to be the frequency of your video output (at over 30fps), is just right to interfere with your headphones.

(Electrical frequency, not audio frequency).

Frame rate is fine it's just the audio. I tried switching my headset to the rear jacks and my monitor to the front jack but this just caused more issues as my playback device software or whatever it's called was getting confused, leaving me with two working outputs (speakers and headset) but the mic on my headset wasn't responding.. so I've left it for now, cos I don't know enough to be mucking about with that, but thanks for your advice!
